Automatic VR Event Routing

CompuSat Logo

This page provides support for configuring the automatic VR Event routing feature in CompuSat.

Configure the receivers
Configure the Video Recorders (VR)
Modify the events

The automatic VR Event routing feature allows CompuSat to determine the proper A/V switch to route the receiver's audio and video to the record device's input. This route is not explicitly entered with the event so changes in the schedule result in automatic changes in the proper route.

Assumption: Your A/V router is installed and working properly with CompuSat's XY panels.

Configure the receivers

To access the receivers and controllers configuration windows click the Configuration menu choice and select Site Configuration.

NOTE: You must be logged in with administrator rights to access the site configuration dialog.

Selecting a digital channel

When you select Site Configuration, the following dialog is displayed:

Scroll down the list of device names in the upper left hand list under Receivers & Controllers and find the first receiver you want to configure. Highlight the desired receiver name and click the Receivers & Controllers button or simply double click the receiver name. The Receivers and Controller Setup window is displayed, opened to the selected receiver:

Click the Receiver Used with drop down and select Auto VR Event Routing.

Click the Video Switcher pick list to select the A/V router the receiver is connected to. Click the Input Position pick list to select the source name on the router for the receiver's signals.

Repeat these steps for each receiver.

When all the receivers are complete, you may click Close to exit and save your changes or you simply go on to the next step.

ConfIguring the Video Recorders

The next step to to edit the configuration of each video recorder used for recordings. Follow these steps.

NOTE: You must be logged in with administrator rights to access the site configuration dialog.

Selecting a digital channel

When you select Site Configuration, the following dialog is displayed:

Scroll down the list of device names in the lower right hand list under Auxiliary Device Setup and find the first video recorder you want to configure. Highlight the desired recorder name and click the Auxiliary Device Setup button or simply double click the recorder name. The Auxiliary Device Setup window is displayed, opened to the selected recorder:

Click the Input Device list and select Router Device.

Click the Router list and select the A/V Router feeding this recorder.

Finally, finish with the Router Positions

Select the router destination corresponding to the video recorder in the Output Pos field.

The Filter Src/Dest fields are normally set to none. These may be used to route the video from a receiver, to a frame sync and then from the frame sync to the recorder.

The Event End Src field may be set to have CompuSat automatically route a source to the recorder once the recording is finished.

Note: If your router uses tie lines to convert analog to digital, this can be used to free the tie lines for other uses.

Repeat these steps for each recorder.

When all the recorders are complete, you may click Close to exit and save your changes.

ConfIguring the Events

Your final step is edit the satellite events and select None for the event source. If no event source is selected, CompuSat automatically switches the receiver's video to the recorder that is executing the same event.

You can do this automatically by changing a preference.

Select Configuration and then Preference to open the preferences window.

Click on the Event Scheduling Preferences button to display the Event Preferences window.

Click the Disable Manual Router Switching in Sat Events check box. This will remove the router choice from the event definition window and prevent any existing events from acting on the embedded router switch.

Master Schedule Display Changes

Notice the changes to the master schedule. Create a new or take an existing satellite event and schedule the event on both a satellite receiver and one or more recorders. Open the Master Schedule window:

Notice each recorder is displayed as a separate line and the implied route is displayed under the source column.

NOTE: If you do select a source for the event, then CompuSat considers that source as an override. This source will be switched to the recorder's destination on the router instead of the automatic switching form the receiver's source.
